With the increasing demand for safe and efficient truck parking solutions, Truckparking Exploitatie Rotterdam has experienced strong growth in recent years. To support this expansion, there was a need for a system that could manage both access and payments efficiently. Since 2017, Secure Logistics has been a trusted partner of Truckparking Exploitatie Rotterdam, and the access and payment system has now been implemented at seven locations, including Truckparking Deventer, Hazeldonk, and Maasvlakte Plaza.
A shared vision on safety and efficiency
The goal was to apply the same approach to the truck parkings as used at the terminals in the Port of Rotterdam. This meant implementing a reliable and secure access control system that could easily verify whether vehicles belong to the same company.
Director Ton Barten explains: “We operate in a niche market and get a lot of energy from solving truck parking challenges. We were looking for a system that seamlessly connected with container terminal systems, and Secure Logistics offered the perfect solution with the CargoCard.”
After a successful pilot in 2016, implementation of the CargoCard access control system began in 2017. The system not only enables efficient access but also provides control over vehicles carrying hazardous materials — an essential factor for safety at the parking sites. Later, the CargoCard was also integrated as a means of payment. Today, seven truck parkings are using the CargoCard.
“The implementation went smoothly. The connection with our system and the backend works perfectly, allowing drivers to continue their journey quickly and without hassle,” says Barten.

One system for both access and payment
Currently, 70 to 80 percent of drivers use the CargoCard when visiting the truck parkings. Access is linked to the individual driver, offering extra security. In addition, drivers no longer need separate access or parking cards, making the process even more convenient.
According to Barten, the access control system turned out to be far more successful than expected. “The versatility of the solution offers many possibilities and enhances safety at our sites. Thanks to the added payment functionality and the ease of use for drivers, the system has exceeded our expectations.”
The success is not only due to the system’s features but also to the strong partnership between Secure Logistics and Truckparking Exploitatie Rotterdam. Barten emphasizes: “We can act quickly and start new developments together. The success of our collaboration is largely thanks to flexibility, good communication, and a shared drive to solve technical challenges efficiently.”
Growth and standardization
With an average shortage of 400 parking spaces in the port — expected to rise to 900–1,000 — expansion into the hinterland is crucial. Truckparking is therefore focusing on continued growth and improving parking facilities for drivers.
Given the proven effectiveness of the access control system at current locations, Truckparking plans to expand the CargoCard solution to additional sites. “Our goal is to have all truck parkings operating with the Secure Logistics system,” says Barten. “Within one and a half to two years, we aim to create one uniform system for all locations. Through standardization, we ensure our customers experience the same ease and reliability everywhere.”
