Our software developers play a crucial role in delivering cutting-edge technology solutions for our customers. Today, Casper, one of our dedicated software engineers, talks about his career at Secure Logistics. His passion for programming and his practical attitude make him an indispensable force on our team!

About Casper

Over five years ago, Casper started his career at Secure Logistics through a secondment agency, before becoming a permanent team member within a year. He mainly works on the interactions between our hardware and software, which means he deals with everything at the customer's site. ‘Programming has always fascinated me. After my bachelor's, I decided not to do a master's, but to look for work straight away, convinced that I would be able to develop myself more than enough ‘on-the-job’. I am still glad I made this choice, it has given me many valuable experiences,’ says Casper.

Impactful projects

During his time at Secure Logistics, Casper has worked on several impressive projects. One of the highlights was his role in the integration of new biometric technologies: fingerprint biometrics. ‘Especially when everyone admires the end result and I know that I played a big part in that, I am really proud,’ says Casper. He especially appreciates projects where he can get quick and immediate feedback, such as the recent implementation of the new fingerprint biometrics form. ‘Positive feedback is always nice, especially since the software I create is often running in the background. It is nice to know that everything is working well, even if it is not immediately noticeable,’ he adds.

What does a working day look like?

For Casper, there is no typical working day; every day brings new challenges and variations. Casper explains, ‘The day often starts with looking at the sprint planning, which outlines the outstanding actions for a two-week period. Sometimes I work on several things at the same time, which takes a lot of energy due to the large differences in projects. I like to be able to focus myself completely on one task, as it allows me to dive deep into the matter and really make an impact. Every day we also have a ‘daily stand-up’, a short meeting with the software development team. In it, we discuss the progress of the projects and any challenges. It is nice to stay directly informed about each other's work in this way and to quickly identify bottlenecks.’

Casper is looking forward to the further roll-out of the fingerprint scanners: ‘I am very curious about the feedback we are going to receive. Constructive feedback from users is always valuable and motivating. I look forward to continuing to work on innovative projects that directly contribute to the satisfaction and convenience of our end users!’

Working environment and colleagues

‘There is a friendly and collegial atmosphere at Secure Logistics. I have therefore built many important friendships here and appreciate the flat hierarchy within the organisation. On Fridays after work, we often play Dungeons & Dragons with colleagues and order pizza, or something else tasty! This is the perfect start to the weekend! Apart from the nice social aspect, you don't have to jump through several hoops to be heard here. You can basically drop in on the director at any time to have a chat or have your say. This accessible working environment ensures that everyone feels valued and can do their best work,’ says Casper.

Casper concludes; ‘I look forward to many more great and successful years at Secure Logistics, where I can further hone my skills and hopefully advance to Senior Developer!’
